Two free downloads to an advertisement free web surfing experience

Nobody likes advertisements on websites. Big animated banners and flash ads slow down the entire web surfing experience and they can be a real pain especially if you are still stuck on dial up like me. Fortunately there is a simple and safe solution. You just need to download two things and you’ll never suffer a pop up or see an ugly banner again.

  • Firefox web browser – Firefox includes pop up and pop under ad blocking and an extendable architecture that allows you to add functionality to it. There are hundred of free firefox extensions available. Firefox also supports tabbed browsing which allows you to open multiple web pages under different tabs in a single Firefox window. This helps reduce onscreen clutter
  • Adblock Plus – This is one of the most popular firefox extensions and with good reason. Adblock removes ads according to filters specified in a blacklist file. You can specify your own filters and/or subscribe to publicly available optmised blacklists. Your subscriptions are automatically updated thereby ensuring that you rarely see any ads.

Together these two downloads can stop almost all ads.

Classic strategy gaming with Transport Tycoon

One of my favourite all time games transport tycoon is now available for free on the Internet! Transport tycoon is a classic game that I used to love playing as a kid. Its a strategy game where you play as the owner of a transport company. You have to develop transport routes between towns and ship cargo and passengers. As a player you can transport raw materials to factories and power stations. You can also transport finished goods to developed towns. You can build airports, train stations, docks and bus stations and transport goods and people by land, air or sea. And as with every business you’ll have to deal with competitors who try to take over your market share. Its is indeed real time strategy gaming at its finest!

Update 25 March 2012: TTD is no longer being offered for download by its creators. Fans are advised to try open transport tycoon deluxe instead.

Alhamdulillah! This site now has Page Rank

Amazing how much things can change in just a few weeks. When I checked my site’s page rank a few weeks ago it showed 0 PR but after the recent google page rank update its jumped to 5! I remember reading an article some time back that suggested that google denies page rank to new websites. It gave the example of a site that went from 0 PR to 7 after 4 months! Now I know that this effect is known as the sandbox effect. And so it is with my site. Roughly three and a half months from the time I registered this domain it has finally got a page rank! And straight to 5 at that. I just have the biggest grin I could possibly have *g*.

Crack Attack!

This is an addictive free and open source game. The idea behind crack attack is that you have a mass of blocks of different colours. More blocks are added to this mass from the bottom of the screen. The aim of the game is align three or more blocks of the same colour to eliminate them. To do this you can only switch two adjacent blocks at a time using the spacebar. Sometimes more blocks fall from the top of the screen and you have to eliminate those too. The game ends if the mass of blocks exceeds the height of the playing screen.

The game features eye pleasing graphics, simple controls and multiplayer options.

Israel massacring Lebanese

America’s lap dog Israel is at it again. Massacring Lebanese citizens by the hundreds. It has already ventured into one Lebanese town and I think a full scale invasion is not too far away. I think Israel is simply following America’s orders. America wants to destroy Muslim countries and this is just one more step in that direction. They are targetting shia countries first fully aware that sunni countries will not risk a war for shias. Iran is almost certainly going to be next. And then they’ll target the sunni dominated countries like Syria.

By attacking Lebanon they are trying to provoke Syria and Iran into joining the conflict thereby giving the Americans an excuse to attack them. Bush’s greed for oil wealth seems neverending. What’s amazing is that the leadership of the Muslim countries is fully aware of this and seems to be unwilling to defend their countries. Are they just to going to lie down and roll over? Or are they going to unite and fight?
